Immigration Attorney Theodore J. Murphy

THEODORE J. MURPHY, Attorney

Ted Murphy launched his career in immigration law in 1994. While working as a sole practitioner he developed an expertise in handling detained and juvenile immigration matters before entering federal service in 1997. After serving more than a decade with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the former INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service), Mr. Murphy re-entered private practice in November 2007. He has handled countless notable matters in the Immigration and Federal Courts and is a frequent lecturer on immigration issues.

As one of the government's most experienced attorneys, Mr. Murphy represented the Agency in all matters before the Immigration Courts and Board of Immigration Appeals. He handled many types of criminal and national security cases as well as fraud and employer sanction cases. Having filed hundreds of appeals for the ICE Agency, he enjoyed a success rate of over 95% in those appeals.

In 2003, Mr. Murphy was appointed as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. He assisted in the investigation and criminal prosecution of a large-scale, multi-state immigration fraud ring from January 2003 until August 2004.

In academia, Mr. Murphy served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Temple University's Beasley School of Law, where he taught both basic and advanced Immigration Law as well as International Organizations.

Prior to his career in law, he served in the U.S. Army with various units including the 82nd Airborne Division. Early on, he worked for three years as a construction and land surveyor with a civil engineering firm in Chester County, PA.

Mr. Murphy received his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University (B.A., 1983) and his Law Degree (J.D., 1994) and Master of Laws (International Law) (LL.M., 1997) from Temple University. He is a member of several professional organizations including: American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA); American Bar Association (ABA); Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA); Chester County Bar Association (CCBA) where he is the Chairman of the Immigration Section.

Mr. Murphy is a Board Member for the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center. He has been admitted to practice law before the following courts:Pennsylvania Supreme Court; United States Supreme Court; United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals; United States District Court – Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and the United States District Court – Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Immigration Attorney Lindsey E. Sweet

LINDSEY E. SWEET, Attorney

Lindsey Sweet joined Murphy Law Firm in 2010. Her involvement with the immigrant community began in 2002 with study at the Universidad Veracruzana in Veracruz, Mexico. Since then, she has served as a Pennsylvania Delegate to the Binational Migrant Education Program between the United States and Mexico in Guanajuato, Mexico. Ms. Sweet also served for several years on the Boards of MANA de Chester County, a National Latina Organization in Toughkenamon, PA, and COSECHA: Cultivating Community in West Grove, PA.

Ms. Sweet has significant experience handling immigration matters before the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice from her work with the Nationalities Service Center in Philadelphia, the American Friends Service Committee in Newark, New Jersey and a private firm in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Ms. Sweet was a Peggy Browning Fellow at Friends of Farmworkers in Philadelphia, providing legal outreach to indigent farm workers across Pennsylvania regarding their rights as employees. She also worked at the Chester County Intermediate Unit Pennsylvania Migrant Education Program as a Student Support Specialist providing supplemental education to the children of migrant farm workers. She created and administered a gang prevention soccer team and career exploration program for pre-teen Latino boys which now has 800 members. She was awarded the 2006 Outstanding Service Award by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

Ms. Sweet received her undergraduate degree from Haverford College (B.A., 2003) and her Law Degree (J.D., 2009) from Rutgers University School of Law. Ms. Sweet is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Sweet is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  She is licensed to practice law in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Immigration Attorney Ashley M. Galloway

ASHLEY M. GALLOWAY, Of Counsel

Ashley M. Galloway joined the Murphy Law Firm as an Attorney in 2010.

Ms. Galloway’s practice focuses on assisting immigration clients in both business and family immigration matters. Her clients include individuals such as physicians, engineers, and computer professionals, as well as multi-national corporations and small U.S. businesses seeking specialized workers.

Ms. Galloway has several years experience in providing legal counsel on immigrant and non-immigrant visa petitions, petitions for extensions of stay and change of status, adjustment of status and naturalization procedures. She has also assisted clients in employer compliance, I-9 matters, and Department of Labor Audits, establishing comprehensive immigration plans, and preparing corporate immigration policies and procedures. In addition to her business and family clients, she has also represented clients in asylum proceedings and claims under the Violence Against Women Act.

Ms. Galloway received her Juris Doctorate from the Penn State University – Dickinson School of Law in 2007. While in law school, Ms. Galloway served as Editor-in-Chief of the Penn State International Law Review. Her comment was selected for publication in the Summer 2006 issue. She also interned with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking.

Ms. Galloway received her B.A. in International Business and Management from Dickinson College in 2004 with minors in Economics and French. She also spent a portion of her studies as a student at the University of Westminster – School of Business in London, England.

Ms. Galloway is a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center and is a founding member of the Central Pennsylvania Immigration Project, a collaboration of local non-profits to provide pro bono assistance to foreign nationals who are victims of abuse or serious crimes. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the York County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Ms. Galloway is a 2009 graduate of Leadership York.

Paralegal Maygreth Salazar

MAGGIE SALAZAR

As manager of the West Chester office since 2009, Maggie assists the firm’s attorneys in preparing and filing motions, briefs, appellate petitions and related correspondence with the various courts and immigration agencies. Additionally, Maggie is responsible for scheduling client appointments for the firm’s attorneys and maintaining client billing. She is the firm’s organizer, keeping attorneys and clients on time for court and interview obligations. Maggie, an immigrant from Venezuela, has a degree in Human Resources from Venezuela. She is fluent in Spanish and English and is working towards a degree in business administration from Goldey-Beacom College.

 

Nancy Ayllon

NANCY AYLLON-RAMIREZ

As a Legal Assistant, Nancy initiated working with the firm in June 2011. She is responsible for client information database entry and assisting with case preparation, as well as translation and interpretation. Additionally, she assists with setting up appointments and correspondence follow-ups. Nancy, a native from Mexico, has been very active with the local immigrant community of Southern Chester County since middle school and high school serving as an advocate to mediate a variety of community conflicts. A graduate from Bloomsburg University, Nancy has double Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Spanish with double minors in Latin American Studies and Ethnic Studies. During her undergraduate career, she studied at Universidad Veracruzana in Veracruz, Mexico for 6 months. Nancy’s main goal is to attend Law School in Fall 2012.

R. ANDREW QUIETMEYER

Andrew joined Murphy Law Firm as a summer Law Clerk in 2011. He is originally from Newark, DE, and is a graduate of the University of Delaware. Currently, he is finishing his Juris Doctorate at Widener University School of law, and plans on working in the field of Immigration Law after school.

During his academic career, Mr. Quietmeyer has worked hard to become a leader on campus in order to best effectuate change on behalf of Widener Law Students. He is an active member in Widener’s Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, the world’s largest legal fraternity. He served as the fraternity’s Justice (president) for the 2010-2011 academic year. Through his service and dedication to the Widener Law students during that time, he was awarded the Stanley H. Kohn award for Most Outstanding Chapter and the Alex A. Hotchkiss award for the Most Outstanding Justice. This past spring he was elected to represent all of Widener Law students as the President of the Student Bar Association for the 2011-2012 academic year. During his time at Widener Law, he has accumulated over 200 hours of pro-bono service, Dean’s Honor List, and numerous other awards for his work in the campus’s Public Interest Law Alliance organization.

Mr. Quietmeyer chose the Immigration Law field because he is very interested in working with those individuals who need effective counsel as they navigate the United States’ legal system. He is extremely interested in the plight of Guatemalan refugees, and is working to influence members of Congress to pass a resolution granting Temporary Protective Status for Guatemalans presently in the United States.
